Creating new future values for the power systems industry
Based on power conversion and energy operation technology, Hyosung Heavy Industries is leading the technology and market development of domestic energy storage systems. We have undertaken various activities in the ESS business ranging from supplying systems to maintenance and consulting business for construction. Based on our ample business experience and product reliability, Hyosung shows strength in the ESS business and contributes to maximizing customer value and creating new future value for the electric power industry.
ESS can be applied to frequency regulation, peak shaving, and renewable integration. Renewable integration is often used for microgrid in lieu of a conventional generator (diesel generator) in individual islands and deserts.
Uses |
Ensure profitability by charging electricity when the cost (rate) is low and discharging it when cost is high Shifting of maximum electricity demand time (Peak shifting) |
---|---|
Discharging Duration | Over 2 Hours |
Benefits |
Consumer: reduces electricity costs System operator: reduces risk of power shortage during peak times and reduces the investment costs to build more power plants |
Key Customers | End-users |
Installations |
In 2012, as a domestic supply business, a 250kW/500kWh ESS was installed in Guri Agro-Fishery Market A 6MW/32MWh ESS was installed at the Busan plant of Dongkuk Steel Mill Co., Ltd. |
Uses |
Grid Assistance System: Provide emergency reserve Power Quality Improvement: Adjust frequency of generated power |
---|---|
Discharging Duration | 15~30 Mins. (Frequency Regulation) |
Benefits |
Electricity company: improves efficiency of existing generators System operator: operates the grid system operation in a more stable manner due to quicker response and improves power quality |
Key Customers | Power Generator |
Installations |
4MW ESS to provide reserve power of Jeju’s Jeochun substation and management of active/reactive power 48MW ESS for frequency regulation at Gimje substation |
Uses |
Electric energy supply at peak electricity demand times (REC profit obtained from weight differences) Variation control of wind power and solar power output Postponed investment for power system transmission capacity expansion |
---|---|
Discharging Duration | 3~4 Hours |
Benefits |
Renewable power generation company: achieves additional gains by making use of REC weight differences after storage System operator: resolves the instability of the power grid and saves the cost of operating the entire power grid by controlling waste or shortages of electricity |
